About the Event
Self-Advocates, IHDD wants YOUR input!
Direct support professionals (DSPs) support people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to live self-determined lives. They do so by implementing person-centered plans and supporting engagement in all aspects of living and participation in community life. DSPs often specialize in either household support (such as helping people with self-care and managing their homes) or employment support (such as job seeking or completing job tasks). The competent Entry Level DSP understands the basic skills in key support areas to ensure quality services are delivered as expected and all laws and regulations are followed. They enhance their skills and knowledge in core support areas and are becoming more active with their employer and their community. They are beginning to define themselves as professionals. This survey asks you to share your opinion on HOW OFTEN a skill is used by an Entry Level DSP and HOW MUCH HARM would be caused if the DSP did not have the skill. There are no right or wrong answers. This information will be used to create items on an exam that measure important DSP skills at the entry level.
